Remote SNMP Software

Customer Profile
SNMP Software

Our Solution
We have provided components that run on the NT server and also on the individual devices. All of these have been developed using tools that run under Windows NT including the Win CE Embedded Toolkit.

Tools and Technologies

  • Microsoft Windows NT
  • Microsoft VC++ 6.0
  • Microsoft Windows CE Embedded Toolkit for VC++ 6.0
  • Platform Builder 2.12/3.0

Methodology
ESN has used the Object Oriented methodology in the design and the implementation of the software.

Benefits

  • Scalable to very large organizations managing a many SNMP windows CE devicess
  • Provides generic functionality that would be applicable to any Software platform
  • Allows for plug-ins to be provided by customers for setups that are specific to that type of platform

Introduction
The Remote SNMP software is a combinedf client-end and server-end software that provides versatile functionality for management of a whole range of Windows Terminals . This software allows Tivoli or Openview Management of terminals connected to NT based Servers. The functionality of each component is specified subsequently.

Situation

The terminals are called thin clients that have only flash memory and no other secondary storage. These devices will run Windows CE as operating system.

To obtain snmp info from the MIB some services are required at the device side that interact with the server software.

Features
The Software for terminals provides a unique combination of SNMP Technology to provide Managers an easy and flexible way to manage a large number of terminalss on a network. The key advantages of the software are:

  • It allows the terminals to work in a plug and play manner with minimum amount of work by the user.
  • It provides generic functionality that would be applicable to any terminal.
  • It allows for plug-ins to be provided by OEMs for setups that are specific to their WBTs.
  • It allows the Manager to handle the most common SNMP functionality that would need to be configured on the device side.
  • It is scalable to very large organizations managing a distributed set of terminals.

Our Process
We have been involved in the full life cycle of the project starting from the requirements to the implementation and testing. We have also been involved in contribution of several design ideas for this project.

Conclusion

The SNMP software allows complete management of terminals. We have been working on development and enhancement of this product for several years.
