Profile
APS Healthcare
Inc, (http://www.apscare.com)
Our Solution
After interacting with the
APS and understanding the requirements it was decided
to form two core teams one at onsite and the other at
offshore, which will function interactively in developing
the system.
The purpose of this project was
to develop a solution meeting one of the APSs
major clients, requirements while taking into
account the needs of other APS clients as well. APS
wanted us to develop various reports for reporting the
clinical information of IRIS application.
The required reports were developed
using Crystal Reports application. Most of the backend
functionality was done using SQL Server stored procedures.
Visual Basic forms were used as calling interfaces for
the reports.
Tools and Technologies
- Microsoft Windows NT4.0/ 2000
Server
- Seagate Crystal Reports 8.0
- Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
- Microsoft SQL Server
- SQL Stored Procedures (PLSQL)
Methodology
The Incremental model is used
to develop the reporting section of the project. This
model is opted as we expected frequent interactions
with the client by the on-site team and more requirements
as the project progresses.
APS wanted the user interface
to fit into their existing IRIS application in terms
look and feel and functionality. These constraints were
kept in mind during the design.
Benefits
The
IRIS reporting module helps APS in generating various
customized reports with ease and accuracy. The system
effectively minimizes the human interaction calculating
various statistics clinical data associated with their
clients.
It also helps APS in assessing
their performance an organization and the performance
of their employees by providing the periodical reports
from time-to-time.

Introduction
IRIS was developed to power the existing
IRIS application of APS Healthcare Inc with the reports
designed to suit specific requirements of its clients.
These reports can be easily customized to suit the requirements
of other clients as well. The system is developed to work
with the existing database.
The system was developed
to use with the existing IRIS application for reporting
the clinical data to their clients. The system is designed
to help APS in generating customized reports for various
clinical details pertaining to their clients very easily
and efficiently. The front-end interfaces used for calling
the reports are designed to help restrict the information
to be reported.
Situation
As part of the APSs plan to expand
its IRIS services to their clients, it wanted to provide
the customized version of its IRIS reports to the customers
in the market of Health Care. APS wanted to power their
IRIS application with the reporting capabilities in the
form of various reports designed for specific purposes
to report the clinical details for their clientele.
APSs primary
goal was to customize the existing IRIS application
both on front end and on the back end and add reporting
capability very quickly. Primarily there were two kinds
of requirements that were to be carried out. Firstly
some modifications to the existing IRIS application
and secondly development of customized reports. APS
felt that by using this system, it would provide more
efficient and user-friendly functionality to its customer
base in the Health Care Industry.
The
system is broken into two components:
- System study and
analyzing the requirements of one of the APSs
client and
- Creating the customized
reports for the customer with the existing backend
functionality and carrying out the required modification
to the IRIS application.
Features
- Generating
complex report very efficiently and accurately with
ease
- Customizable
reports for reporting the various clinical details.
- Provides
front-end interface that can be used to restrict the
information set for the given report.
- Easily
maintainable as most of the functionality is developed
at the backend in the form of SQL server stored procedures.
- Reports
with a good design in terms of look and feel.
Our Process
The system is developed using
the Crystal Reports, a reporting tool from Seagate. The
SQL server stored procedures are used for the backend
calculations of the data. The front-end interfaces used
for calling the reports are designed using Visual Basic
6.0.
The
system has the following reports designed for reporting
various clinical details.
- Case Summary Report
- Urgent Emergent
Report
- Case Review Report
- Missing Case File
Report
- Practice Pattern
Report
- Follow-up Report
- Quarterly Report
- Contract Level
- Site Level
Conclusion
We have made
significant contributions in terms of the design for this
system and tried to keep in mind the clients long-term
requirements. The System was designed and developed to
help APS to fulfill the needs of one its client but it
can be used for other clients as well with any modifications.
Our work to complete the project on time was appreciated.
