Our Process
We used our Software Development Life Cycle for this project.
Given that it was a web-based system the user interface
was critical for the success of the system. Our in-house
graphics team designed the layout for the interface that
was used as a prototype to demonstrate the look and feel
of the system to the client.
We were involved in the database
design for the system and also understanding the domain
specific knowledge related to the system prior to implementation.
These were documented and exchanged for comments and
feedback with the client.
Compatibility across browsers
was an important issue. We had to use code and tools
that would ensure that the system works uniformly well
under both Internet Explorer and Netscape.
Conclusion
The system is extremely easy to use and does not require
any specific training. It has online help and with the
help of a user manual the client was able to start using
it effectively. The architecture of the system has been
developed keeping in mind that there could be thousands
of users and thousands of transactions being done subject
to any hardware constraints of the backend servers. The
particular application is not mission critical but nevertheless
we have taken steps to ensure that it is highly reliable
and that downtimes are minimized.
